The following is an excerpt from an article recently posted to rec.games.pinball (last updated: 2/1/95): Basically, your best bet is to use the Carey bus service that runs between all the airports and the Port Authority bus terminal at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. From there you can either hop in a cab to the hotel or walk it (the walk should take no more than 10 minutes; the cab ride should cost about $5). When you get to the airport, look for signs pointing you to "ground transportation"; there'll be a counter where you can buy a bus ticket for around $10, and the buses leave pretty regularly. I know Carey runs to the Port Authority terminal; I also know they do pick ups at the Hilton at 53rd Street and 6th Avenue (just a couple blocks away from the Park Central Hotel); what I don't know is whether they do drop offs there as well. (So you might want to ask.) The ground transportation information number for the Port Authority is: 1-800-247-7433. After dialing, press "1" immediately, otherwise you have to listen to an incredibly long-winded disclaimer that contains no useful information. Then press "1" for Kennedy airport; "2" for LaGuardia; or "3" for Newark. Press "1" to indicate that you're going to New York City. Press "1" for information on the Carey bus service. Or skip all this and take my word for it -- find the ground transportation center at the airport and ask the folks there. They'll point you in the right direction. (There's also a way to "share" a ride via either cabs or mini-vans, but I don't know much about it; I believe you can info on the 800 number, though.) Or be a true New Yorker for a few brief, shining moments and show your disdain for public transportation of all kinds by taking a private cab for around $40. Just don't let the driver know you're a tourist or he'll take you to Manhattan by way of Philadelphia... ;-)
