The PAPA 5 Internet Mini-Tournament

After Pat Lawlor showed us the right way to spell Roadshow (just kidding, Pat) at the 1994 Pinball Expo, it was inevitable that others would follow suit and acknowledge the growing and thriving community of pinball enthusiasts on the Internet.

Steve Epstein, ahead of the tournament curve as usual, is certainly no exception, and for PAPA 5 he wanted to hold a special "mini-tournament" just for people on the Net. This tournament will be open to anyone who can send email or post news; entry into the mini-tournament is free, and there will be about $500 in prize money awarded.

Tournament Details

The tournament will be held on Saturday, February 4, with qualifying rounds running from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Games will be played on the Doubles bank of games, and the mini-tournament will be run exactly as the PAPA Champions tournament is run:

The semi-finals will start at 4:00 PM; finals will start at 5:00 PM.

Prizes are as follows:

Special Internet trophies will also be awarded to the finalists (these are custom versions of the Broadway league trophies, and they look very snazzy).

Registration

Registration is simple: just send email to Steve Baumgarten with your email address and where you're coming from, and you'll be added to the official registration list below.

PAPA 5 Internet Mini-Tournament Registration List

This is the final list, as of Friday, February 3, of the people registered for the PAPA 5 Internet Mini-Tournament.

Thanks to everyone for the overwhelming response the Internet tournament has gotten; we'll be playing tomorrow morning, so stay tuned to the PAPA 5 page and rec.games.pinball for scores and results.

Final Standings:

I apologize to everyone who didn't get a chance to play; all I can say is that we did our best and promise to do better next year. Turnout for the RGP tournament surprised everyone; I don't think anyone expected more than a couple dozen entries at most, yet over 60 people registered via email and over 40 people got to play, with nearly 50 on the list Saturday afternoon (which means that about 10 people didn't get to play).
